Motion in a Straight Line is the third chapter and again an important one , as it is a base of many other topics that one study in Class 11 physics and afterwards. Hence it is important from Board as well competitive exam prospects. We need to understand thte fact that whatever we are studing & learning at this stage, it will become the foundation of the building of a successful career in future. Hence, skipping anything or not grasping in-depth conceptual understanding of anything can be a big mistake from future prospect.
Now let’s come to this chapter, Introduction part will give us an understanding that how motion is involved everywhere & its understanding. Second sub topic i.e. Position, Path and Displacement gives an understanding about position and change in position due to motion, about path & distance covered and displacement or change in position and its aspects. When an object is in motion, its position changes with time and we learn aspects of same in Average Velocity and Average Speed. The average velocity tells us how fast an object has been moving over a given time interval but does not tell us how fast it moves at different instants of time during that interval, and we learn the same under Instantaneous velocity and Speed. Acceleration is the next topic and tells us about rate of change of the velocity of an object with respect to time. Under Kinematic equations for uniformly accelerated motion, we learn derivation related to displacement (x), the time taken (t), initial velocity (v0), final velocity (v) and acceleration (a). The area under v-t curve represents the displacement. In last topic under the chapter, we learn about Relative Velocity, which describes about the vector difference between the velocities of two bodies.
